After graduating from Virginia Tech with a Bachelors of Science in Aerospace & Ocean Engineering, Grice began his career as a civilian employee of the US Navy in Washington, DC. He served as an aerospace engineer / acquisition logistics manager for the Naval Air Systems Command, NAVAIR, adjacent to the Pentagon, for 3 years.
Grice transitioned to the commercial airport industry by becoming the director of Operations for the Airport Consultants Council, ACC. Headquartered in Alexandria, Grice worked with several Executive Directors growing this airport industry trade association by 200% in membership during his eight years there. As the Number Two role for the ACC, he oversaw member services, created the database, produced publications, and managed the web site, marketing, conferences, finance, and oversaw several staff members.
It was during ACC that the core relationships began to grow with leading airport consulting firms, their principals and leadership teams, and airport executives around the country. Close coordination with AAAE and ACI on industry issues meant an ever-widening awareness of companies’ and individuals’ strengths, brands, teams, and personalities. Grice worked closely with the ACC Board of Governors, making long lasting, trusting relationships with Principals and CEOs of airport organizations.
Relocating his family to the Raleigh-Durham area in 1999, Grice began recruiting individuals for airport consultants and airport directors for Management Recruiters of Raleigh/MRI. He built the airport recruitment practice from scratch to nearly $3 million in airport business in a decade. Along the way, he received awards from his local firm MRI of Raleigh, the MRI North Atlantic region , and the worldwide MRI Network. He was named Account Executive of the Year by relocation partner Global Mobility Systems / FAS in 2002 and then MRI Network Worldwide CSAM of the Year in 2006. He has spoken at recruiting industry events, airport industry conferences, and been featured in training videos for recruiters learning the business. Grice has had extensive continuing education in recruitment industry legal issues, technology, business ethics.
Under the leadership of Grice Whiteley, whose background you can read about in his bio, Grice Group was founded in 2011. Grice’s unique background as a highly visible individual in the airport industry came about from 8 years in the number two position for the Airport Consultants Council followed by nearly 12 years working for Management Recruiters International. At MRI he built a highly successful and award winning airport recruitment practice from scratch.
